Understanding and Managing Stress
Stress is part of life. In small doses, it keeps us alert and productive. It only becomes a problem when it becomes permanent and there are no breaks in between. The good news is that a few conscious habits can cushion a lot. Here are six approaches for everyday life.
- Recognize your triggers
The first step is to even notice what stresses you. Often it's the same situations over and over again: a full calendar, certain conversations, too little buffer between appointments. Knowing your patterns allows you to counteract them specifically, instead of just reacting.
- Breathe consciously
Sounds simple, but works immediately. A few slow, deep breaths signal to your body that there is no danger. Even one minute with prolonged exhalation can noticeably calm your nervous system, anytime, anywhere.
- consciously schedule breaks
The body needs recovery phases to process stress. Short interruptions throughout the day often work better than a long break in the evening. Stand up, walk a few steps, look out the window for a moment – small stimuli, big effect.
- Exercise regularly
Exercise is one of the most effective ways to combat stress. It reduces tension and lifts your mood. It doesn't have to be a workout. A brisk walk or some stretching is often enough to clear your head.
- Protect your sleep
Stress and sleep are closely linked: those who sleep poorly are more susceptible to strain the next day, and stress, in turn, disturbs sleep. Fixed bedtime and a calming evening ritual break this cycle.
- Talk about it
Burden is easier to share when you talk about it. A conversation with friends, family, or colleagues helps to put things into perspective and gain distance. You don't have to deal with everything by yourself.
Stress often shows itself before we consciously feel it. This is exactly where your Azume One comes in. It makes changes in your stress level visible throughout the day and helps you recognize when stress arises, as a basis for conscious decisions.
